Cross River Police Engage Robbers In Shootout, Kills 5
Police Command in Cross River State has recovered Two hundred and Sixty One Thousand Naira (N261, 000), three locally made pistols and some live cartridges from suspected armed robbers, who attacked, robbed and snatched a bag containing some money from a resident at Barracks road in Calabar on Monday. Five of the suspected armed robbers were gunned down by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the command. The suspects were said to be notorious armed robbers. According to our investigations, about 20 minutes after the incident, some angry mob from Barracks Road came out en mass and set the car the armed robbers were using ablaze. It was reported that the incident occurred in the morning of Monday as the victim came out of a bank. Speaking with our correspondent on phone on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo, said that when the suspected robbers cited the operatives from SARS, they opened fire and in the process the SARS operatives killed five of them.
