The father of the first baby of the year in Osun State, Mr Abiodun Okewunmi has reportedly died few hours after being honoured by the First Lady of the state, Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola on January 1, 2018.

The wife of the deceased, Mrs Olanike Okewunmi, delivered her baby around 2:18am on Monday.

The First Lady, contrary to the old way of honouring parents of the first baby, by presenting gift items through her aides personally visited Osun State General Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo to present the gifts.

The father of the first baby, Okewunmi had showered encomium on Mrs Aregbesola for her good gesture.

Okewunmi, however, dashed out of the hospital in joy to get food for his wife and quickly returned to the hospital.

It was gathered that the father of the first baby eventually left the hospital around 8pm to have some rest at home when the unfortunate happened.

Okewunmi met his rather mysterious death along Gbogan-Osogbo road, at Ogo-oluwa area of the metropolis; his motorcycle had a head-on collision with another motorcycle riding against the traffic.

While the other cyclist sustained minor injury, Okewunmi died on the spot as a result of serious head injury he sustained.

Okewunmi’s wife, Olanike, in a phone interview with our reporter expressed emotional depression over the issue, describing it as the darkest moment of the family’s life.

“We were so happy after receiving those gifts items from the First Lady, I later started feeling hunger, and my husband went home to prepare food for me, he came back and played with us for some minutes.

”He left the hospital around 8:pm, not knowing that it would be the last time I will set my eyes on him. I learnt that he died of accident few minutes he left us around Ogo-oluwa.

No official statement has been issued from the office of the First Lady to commiserate with the bereaved family.
