A trailer loaded with cattle killed one person and injured others in a Christmas Day multiple car crash in Enugu.
The incident occurred at Naira Triangle, near the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation mega filling station.
A correspondent gathered that the driver of the trailer, said to be conveying cattle from the northern part of the country, suddenly lost control and rammed into four vehicles and tricycles.
A passenger in one of the tricycles, simply identified as Mr. Okoye, said to be travelling to his hometown with his family to celebrate the festive season, reportedly died on the spot.
A Punch correspondent learnt that the victims of the accident were rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development on Tuesday, said the victims were admitted to the Parklane Hospital in Enugu.
Amaraizu said the intervention of the police stopped a mob from burning the trailer and the cows.
He said, “The prompt intervention of the operatives of the New Haven Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Command, stopped some aggrieved members of the public, who wanted to burn the trailer with the entire cattle, from taking the laws into their own hands.”.
